來自希臘語Mousa,繆斯女神，來自PIE*men,思考，思索，詞源同mind,mentor.引申詞義靈感，沉思。也有觀點認(rèn)為其沉思義來自拉丁語musum,鼻子，詞源同muzzle,原指狗把鼻子在空氣中嗅，諷刺人裝模作樣，假裝思考，游蕩，若有所思。

muse (v.): "to reflect, to be absorbed in thought," mid-14c., from Old French muser (12c.) "to ponder, dream, wonder; loiter, waste time," literally "to stand with one's nose in the air" (or, possibly, "to sniff about" like a dog who has lost the scent), from muse "muzzle," from Gallo-Roman *musa "snout," of unknown origin.
